Ali Asghar Children's Hospital was established in 1343 under the name Shahr Azad. The hospital was built on a land with an area of 5,130 square meters and an    infrastructure of 8,500 square meters, and it was managed by Mrs. Shiva, who financed the expenses of the hospital by attracting benefactors. By time, reputable doctors of the country, such as Ahmed Mashauf, a specialist in pediatrics, Shokrallah Yousefi, a pathologist, Abbas Khalsi, a pediatric surgeon, Dr. Hadi Samai, a specialist in neonates, and Parvaneh Wathouq, a specialist in hematology and children's cancer, were recruited to the hospital.

After the victory of the Islamic revolution, the hospital named after Ali Asghar was changed and came under the coverage of the regional health organization of Tehran province and continued its activity in the specialized and sub-specialized field of children as a government hospital. During these years, the hospital was managed by Shokrallah Yousefi and then Amanullah Ehsani, a pediatric specialist.

In 1365, it was covered by Iran University of Medical Sciences and medical students, interns and assistants were introduced to this center to spend the relevant training courses. In 1371, in the specialized fields of newborns, pediatric surgery, children's blood and cancer, children's glands, and all children, the educational departments trained super specialized assistants in these fields, and it provided essential help to different provinces of the country, in a way that currently Most of the provinces of the country, the graduates of this center are providing services as specialists or sub-specialists.

In 1375, pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric neurology, pediatric dentistry, and dialysis departments were added to the existing departments. The establishment of a vast dormitory for assistants and interns was one of the actions of this era. In 2013, Seyed Javad Nasiri, a specialist in pediatric surgery, assumed the presidency of the hospital. During his presidency, the PICU and NICU departments were developed and the psychiatric department started working. During this period, Kamrani Charitable Foundation provided a floor of the Gamma knife building to move all specialized clinics to a suitable and standard location. Also, with everyone's effort, the physical spaces of the operating room, blood department, surgery department and general department were completely renovated and equipped.

In the fall of 2012, the radiology unit was renovated with continuous follow-up by the authorities and with the efforts of respected donors and equipped with DR, PACS, CR and CT scan devices. At the end of 1992, the renovation and equipping of the PICU department of the hospital was completed and it was put into operation with an increase in capacity to 18 beds. In 2013, the emergency department of the hospital was demolished and rebuilt according to existing standards.
